Gallery Mittwoch

KOLEKTIV BERLIN is a gallery project that stages large scale exhibitions, in innovative and interesting spaces, offering an alternative art experience from the common and sterile “shop-front” gallery. Converting what might be considered unusable derelict buildings, keeping the integrity and character of what has gone before to create an exhibition environment that complements the art shown. Most works are created especially for the gallery and on occasion artists use the space as a studio for site-specific pieces. Our current gallery space for 2008 is in the top floor of the old brewery The Friedrichshöhe at Landsberger Allee 54, in Friedrichshain.

Our focus is to exhibit art that contains some form of commentary on the human condition, be it political, social or psychological. We also believe and promote the importance of the aesthetic in creating and exhibiting art. Some would say our ideas are out dated modernist notions, but we would argue in the current void due to the end of post modernism, it is time for an examination of what made art the great catalyst for social change in the early 20th century. It is our belief that with solid technical and conceptual execution, art can regain its social relevants to contemporary culture, instead of being merely a status symbol to prove ones place in high society.

Being based in Berlin enables us to be in close contact with many young artists from around the world, who flock to the city and feed of its creative energy, from our studio spaces we can support artist who show potential and share our artistic values. We intend to reflect the global nature of our times, and work with artists from all corners of the world, however in choosing artists no consideration is given to race, gender or nationality.
