Piano Recital with Alice Hampel & Panayiotis Gogos
Friday 20 May, 7.30pm
Dancing around Liszt
Four hand piano concert with Panayiotis Gogos and Alice Hampel. The main element of this concert is the deep relationship and the reciprocal influence between the romantic composers namely Franz Liszt and the folkloric dances en vogue at that period of time. Starting with the 16 Waltzes by Johannes Brahms - homage to Vienna - it continues with the charming paraphrase of two popular arias by Donizetti, followed by the Spanish Dances by Maurice Moszkowski, a colourful canvas of the most characteristic rhythms of Spain. The concert’s focal point is Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 - not only his most famous work but perhaps the most popular composition of the romantic era. The concert ends with a selection of Brahm’s Hungarian Dances.
Panayiotis Gogos is an extraordinary musician, an artist who unites sensibility, an effervescent spirit and poetry and it is exactly this unique composition that renders him a remarkable pianist. Numerous honours and awards mark his artistic career. The Greek Academy of Art & Literature Athens awards Panayiotis Gogos the title of "Best Young Soloist" in 2005. His artistry continues the great pianistic tradition of Alfred Cortot and Edwin Fischer. Concert tours have brought Panayiotis Gogos to several European countries in the past few years. During his voyages, he gave piano recitals in France, Germany, Greece, Austria and Switzerland and in addition, he gave many concerts as a soloist with various orchestras. From 2006 until 2009, he was accepted in the famous artists residence "Cité Internationale des Arts" in Paris, which he was chosen to represent as soloist at the "Fête de la Musique" in Paris. For the 2011 concert season, he is invited for concerts in England, Austria, Greece and Germany. In 2009 Panayiotis Gogos gave his debut recital at the famous Konzerthaus Wien.
Alice Hampel distinguishes herself through musical diversity. She is a soloist, accompanist and plays piano duets with pianist Panayiotis Gogos in numerous concerts domestically and abroad.
