(openPR) Der Projektraum Prima Center Berlin (PCB) feiert Neueröffnung mit einer Deutschlandpremiere der Ausstellung. „In My Mother's Footsteps“ der israelisch-deutschen Künstlerin Yishay Garbasz.
Berlin, 08.04.2024. Der Projektraum Prima Center Berlin (PCB) im Soldiner Kiez (Berlin-Gesundbrunnen) feiert Neueröffnung am 19. April ab 19:00 Uhr mit einer Vernissage der Künstlerin Yishay Garbasz. Erstmals wird ihre Fotoserie „In My Mother‘s Footsteps“ in Deutschland gezeigt, im Rahmen des Ausstellungsprogramms „3 Facets of Never Again“.
Die deutsch-israelische Künstlerin Yishay Garbasz dokumentiert fotografisch eindrucksvoll die Stationen des Shoa-Überlebens ihrer Mutter. Die Arbeit über Trauma und das Schweigen sowie die Spuren, die es in Familie und Gesellschaft hinterlässt, entstand in einem 11 Jahre langen Prozess von Spurensuche und zahllosen Aufnahmen von den Orten des Geschehens. Dreizehn davon werden Seite an Seite mit den Worten ihrer Mutter als lebendige Chronik präsentiert – ein steiniger, teilnehmender Pfad und Gegenentwurf zum deutschen Eiertanz um Antisemitismus und der oftmals oberflächlichen Erinnerungskultur.
Das Prima Center Berlin selbst erhält zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum mit neuer, alter Führung ein queeres Makeover: Künstlerin Annamaria Balov und Journalistin Paula Balov, Erbinnen des vorherigen Betreibers und Künstlers Jovan Balov, setzen ab April seine Arbeit fort, unterstützt durch die Co-Kuratorin Jeanne Spada, den Freund*innenverein und Kolonie Wedding e. V. Der Fokus soll dabei auf queerer und (post-)migrantischer Kunst aus Berlin und Südosteuropa liegen, die geschlechtliche und nationale Zugehörigkeiten mit den Betrachter*innen bespricht, auch wenn sich keine abschließende Antwort finden lässt. Die Position zwischen den Stühlen Ost und West, in Berlin und Balkan, ist dafür bestens geeignet.
Über die Künstlerin: Yishay Garbasz ist eine interdisziplinäre Künstlerin mit Sitz in Berlin. In ihrer Arbeit erforscht sie das Erbe traumatischer Erinnerungen aus Krieg, Katastrophen und Marginalisierung. Ihr Prozess sucht das Unsichtbare sichtbar zu machen und das Unansehnliche zärtlich zu betrachten. Ihre Arbeiten wurden international in Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen ausgestellt, darunter in Tokio, Seoul, New York, Miami, Boston, Berlin, Paris, London und auf der Busan-Biennale.

The Prima Center Berlin (PCB) project space is celebrating its reopening with the German premiere of the exhibition "In My Mother's Footsteps" by the Israeli-German artist Yishay Garbasz.
Berlin, 05.04.2024. The Prima Center Berlin (PCB) project space in Soldiner Kiez (Berlin-Gesundbrunnen) is celebrating its reopening on April 19 from 7 p.m. with a vernissage by the artist Yishay Garbasz. Her photo series "In My Mother's Footsteps" will be shown for the first time in Germany as part of her exhibition program "3 Facets of Never Again".
The German-Israeli artist Yishay Garbasz impressively documents the stages of her mother's Shoah survival in photographs. The work on the traces and silence that trauma leaves behind in families and society was created in a years-long process of searching for and repeated photography of the places from her memories. Thirteen of these photographs are presented side by side with the words of her mother as a living chronicle - a stony, participatory path and counterpoint to the German Eiertanz around anti-Semitism and the oftentimes shallow German culture of remembrance.
Prima Center Berlin itself is getting a queer makeover for its 20th anniversary with new, old management: artist Annamaria Balov and journalist Paula Balov, daughters of the previous curator and artist Jovan Balov, will continue his work from April, supported by co-curator Jeanne Spada, the friends' association and Kolonie Wedding e. V.. The focus will be on queer and (post-)migrant art from Berlin and Southeast Europe, which questions and discusses gender and national identities, even if no conclusive answer can be found. PCB's position in the cracks between East and West, in Berlin and the Balkans, couldn't be better suited to that work.
About the artist: Yishay Garbasz is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. In her work she explores the inheritance of traumatic memories from war, disaster and marginalization. Her process makes the invisible visible and makes the unsightly tenderly seen. Her work has been exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions, including in Tokyo, Seoul, New York, Miami, Boston, Berlin, Paris, London and at the Busan Biennale.
