(openPR) One of this season´s high-lights for Eivind Gullberg Jensen and “his” NDR Radio Philharmonic is the 80th birthday of the Russian contemporary composer Sofia Gubaidulina. The Norwegian chief conductor will lead in her honour her Concerto for violin and orchestra "In tempus praesens" on 13 November 2011 in Hannover. The soloist is no one else but the dedicee of Gubaidulina´s concert, the famous violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. The concert program includes also Beethoven´s Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op.93 and the “Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten” of the Estonian contemporary composer Arvo Pärt. This will be also the crowning concert that will close the musical festivities “Gubaidulina-Fest”, organized by the NDR Radio Philharmonic from 9 to 13 November together with the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, Niedersächsische Sparkassenstiftung, Sparkasse Hannover, Stiftung Niedersachsen and Musikland Niedersachsen.
Contemporary music and Slavic composers have always been a matter of the heart for Eivind Gullberg Jensen. No earlier than autumn 2010 he conducted Guibaidulina´s violin concerto “Offertorium” in Trondheim and at his exciting debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker: “The ultimate accolade”, praised the Hannoversche Allgemeine and continued: “During Gubaidulina´s classic Gullberg Jensen organizes the highly contrasting and tensed voices of the orchestra with clear gestures and a determined attitude to a disturbing overall picture of crystal clear transparency. […] Enthusiastic acclaims!”
Eivind Gullberg Jensen is one of the most sought-after conductors of the new generation. In his third year as chief conductor of the NDR Radio Philharmonic in Germany he will conduct other important concerts in Hannover with great soloists such as Frank Peter Zimmermann, and Hilary Hahn. Furthermore he will lead his German orchestra during the Festspillene i Bergen on 28 and 29 May 2012. Among the most important engagements in his home country are also two concerts with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra on 1 and 2 February 2012 and the premiere of Puccini´s “La Bohème” on 20 January 2012 at the Norske Opera in Oslo.
